I flat out refused to deal with Dell during this current fiasco with my laptop. I knew that if I got on the phone with them, or even got on their live chat one of us would get cursed at…and it wouldn’t be me. I’m beginning to suspect (oh okay, that’s a lie) that this laptop is a “lemon” but as there’s no law stating that a computer has to be replaced…I’m crap outta luck!
I spent a good part of yesterday and today debating whether or not I should repair the laptop. I went so far as to head over to the local Staples to look at their offerings of laptops-which sadly consisted of way too many Dells. I even considered just going with a new desktop and replace both computers (since the desk top is virtually a dinosaur at five point five years of age)…the price isn’t bad, as long as I don’t go overboard with the “extras”. I have a nice sum of money coming in from my parents (repayment of a loan)-so financially I could easy hack a new computer…though, for now I’ve managed to reformat my computer and will see how it goes. One of the reasons I’m not too keen on buying a new computer (aside from the price) is that I’ve heard so many bad things about Vista…
So now I’m performing the task of putting my poor abused laptop back in order. Thanks to Firefox Add-ons it’s not as difficult as it once was. Firefox even has a very handy Sync feature so I can access my bookmarks from either my laptop or my desktop…of all the add on’s Firefox offers…I have to say, that’s my top choice.
As a side note, I inadvertently discovered what my birthday present will be. My parents are planning on buying me a GPS! I hadn’t even talked much about wanting one, but I brought it up tonight and my parents told me that that’s what they wanted to give me for my birthday since I’ll be traveling more. So now I need to do some research to find a good one that’s not too pricey. My only requirement is that it’s a verbal one as having to look at a screen while driving makes me nervous.

I have Vista and have been less than thrilled with its performance. I know others who love it.

Vista is on my new laptop and I’m not crazy about it.. after having the laptop for about 4 days it decided to go for a crap… luckily BHM was able to fix the problem.. it had something to do with the internet… Anyways I hope it works out for you and that GPS sounds divine..

MS is now making it possible to buy new computers with XP instead of Vista. Vista is a pile of crap. stay away from it at all costs.

Yuck, I so don’t like dealing with computer issues. Good luck with your laptop!

I’m disappointed in my dell which we bought a few years back unless they got better I wouldn’t buy a dell.
I heard a lot people don’t care about the Vista operation system.

Counting me, you’re the fourth person I know who is currently having laptop problems. I wonder if it is a plague—or, maybe, a conspiracy?

I’ll keep the GPS a secret until you are surprised with it on your birthday… which is when?

I tried using Windows Vista Word last week and it was super confusing. Parts of it are supposedly better but I’d wait till they work out the kinks. I have a Gateway laptop and it’s never given me any issues. I would try and give Dell one more opportunity to redeem itself, tell them the number of problems you have been having and if you don’t get a new comp or serious help with this one you will buy a new brand and never a Dell. Sometimes when you threaten to switch they will help you out more.

Thank you for your good wishes. As soon as Poor Hubby’s transition from one job to the other is over, things should be back to normal. It just happened at a really bad time.
It’s on my list. They both do what I want (except internet-wise right now), so I can’t complain. I’ll pray to the Technology Gods for you.
I’m sorry to hear about your ‘Puter. I’m sure both of my personal ‘Puters would be considered antiques by now, but as long as I can get some high-speed goin’ I’ll be happy.

I usually try to fix things first, because I hate throwing away. That said, I had to change laptop two years ago because mine really wasn’t reliable and I was afraid to lose all my data.

I love our Dell desk top computer and I HATE Vista that is on my Acer laptop.

I love Firefox Add-Ons too and use the synch feature (and many others). A few of my friends are using Vista now and say they are pleasantly surprised after hearing so much negative talk. We have it on one computer at my job and it has some cool stuff.
Cool about the GPS! I NEED one of those, I get lost more often than not!

I hope you can get your computers up and running good. Yeah, I heard Vista blows too.

Whatever you do, stay AWAY from HP.
I hate HP

Mac OSx vs. Windows XP – Mac OSx wins Round 1
P.S. I don’t know why everyone hates Vista. I have MS Office 2007 though. I can understand the hatred of that.
