Heads or Tails: Direction

I have a confession to make, I am directionally challenged.  I try to hide the secret but it sometimes slips out…usually at embarrassing times.  Probably one of the most embarrassing moments happened during my drivers test.  I had just started the test and the grumpy old man testing me told me to make a left hand turn.  Confidently I flipped on my blinker only to be admonished (quite rudely) “left turn!”.  Instead of putting on my left turn signal I put on my right signal.  There wasn’t much I could do except mutter an embarrassed “oops”, throw on the correct signal and turn correctly.  Thankfully that was the only mistake I made, and I passed the exam.

Besides not knowing me left to right, I’m also terrible with finding new places.  I eventually get to where I have to be, but most of the times I end up passing the place the first time around…missing a turn and having to double back up, or generally getting cursed with bad directions.  Everyone I know is familiar with that, “Hey, I’m lost.  Help me.” phone call.

Today I am due to attend my yearly CPR class.  Unlike last year when the class was held within walking distance of my house, the class will be held in the next town over.  Supposedly it’s just off of one of the roads I frequent fairly often…but still, wish me luck!

I think I need to buy myself a GPS.

Head over to the Heads and Tails headquarters to visit the other HoT participants.

  • Take a small map book with you , one with side roads and streets that normally aren’t on bigger maps.. another helpful hint is using the sunlight for directions of North,South, East ,West.. sun rises in the east and sets in the west… and so on… you are not alone in your dilemma.. Many people get lost or directionally challenged… I wish lots of luck…

  • i have no sense of north or south. when we get lost and i don’t have a map if i feel we should be heading left you’d better head right hehe.

  • If I cannot see the sun or other landmarks I designate to keep my bearings, I get lost big time. I wish all towns had the north, south, east, west and numeric address indicators on their street signs!

A good number of the streets in Hawaii don’t have street signs. They meander around, following the line of the island (which isn’t straight) and I have chosen for my landmarks the mountains and the sea — which seems sensible until after dark when they can no longer be seen.

  • I have no sense of direction either.

  • I sympathize. My spousal unit has difficulty with left and right and my mother was hopeless. Good luck!!

  • I’m lousy with directions, too. I never go anywhere without a fist full of maps, and always work out at least two routes- the most direct route, and the route to take if I miss my turn!

Thank you for stopping by my blog today. I appreciate you taking the time to say a few nice words. :)

  • I’m horrible with driving directions, but great at reading a map. My husband has a fantastic sense of direction, but always mixes up his left and right ;-)

  • I get lost in malls and have to take great care to make a note of the entrance otherwise I will be walking around and around trying to find the car. One of the reasons I got a bright yellow car is that I will be able to pick it out in parking lots because I can never remember where it is parked.
