This week’s edition of Skittle’s Heads or Tails is for the letter C. I’m sure that I am not the only one out there that now has the “C is for Cookie” song from Sesame Street series stuck in their heads now.
On that vein, I have decided to share with you all a few of my favorite cookie recipes…while I’m not very handy in the kitchen with most things…I do know how to bake a fair deal of cookies, which is a good thing as they’re some of my favorite baked goods.
This first recipe is a cookie that I normally make at Christmas time, but they are great anytime. You might want a helper for these, though, that would require you to share!
Great American Peanut Butter Blossoms
Prep Time: 15min (approx)
Bake Time: 8min (approx)
Makes 4 Dozen
- 48 Hershey’s Kisses (or other similar chocolate candies
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tbs. milk
- 1 ts. vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Granulated Sugar
Directions: 1. Heat oven to 375*F. Remove wrappers from chocolates. 2. Beat shortening and peanut buttter in large bowl until well blended. Add 1/3 cup granulated sugar and brown sugar, beat until fluffy. Add egg, milk and vanilla; beat well. Still together flour, baking soda and salt; gradually beat into peanut butter mixture. 3. Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Roll in graduated sugar; place onto ungreased cookie sheet. 4. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Immediately press a chocolate piece into center of each cookie; cookie will crack around edges. Remove from cookie sheet to wire wrack. Cool completely.
This second recipe might seem like your standard run of the mill chocolate chip cookie…but I swear, this is the best recipe ever…after eating a few of these, you will never buy store bought again.
Original Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies
- 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 cup Crisco
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips (I recommend Nestles)
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Preheat oven to 375*F
Combine flour, baking soda, and salt into small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.
Makes about 5 dozen.

Oh yeah. There is nothing better than a good cookie recipe. Especially if it’s a recipe you haven’t tried yet. Looks like I’ve got my weekend baking sorted out.

I also did two recipes for heads or tail. I never thought of the cookie song from Sesame Street.
