Absent

I’m sorry I haven’t been around much the last few days.  The internet’s been acting up again, off and on the last few days so I haven’t been able to get online.  It’s finally working, but I don’t really have much time before I have to leave for work.   I’m keeping my fingers crossed that [...]

Shelfari

I recently discovered a website like Library Thing called Shelfari where you can list the books you’ve read, post reviews, answer and ask questions, and join groups.  It’s pretty neat and I’m having fun with it.  Plus, unlike Library Thing, it is totally free.
If you have an an account there, or want to set one [...]

Black Swan Green by David Mitchell

Black Swan Green is a coming of age story about Jason Taylor, a 13 year old boy growing up in a sleepy village in England.  Throughout the story, Jason contemplates ways of understanding his family, his peers and himself.

To me, coming of age stories are a bit tricky.  Many writers (both in literature and for [...]

Insomnia…part two

You know…most people suffer from insomnia.  I’m not one of those people…sure, it’s a pain in the ass at times, but I like having the extra hours in the day to write and read.  I do enjoy sleeping.  Just not for hours at a time.  Everything in moderation.  Plus, I like the quietness of the [...]

Madagascar: A Movie Review

“This place is crackalacking. Oh, I could hang here. I could hang here.”
–Marty the Zebra
The setting is Central Park zoo, the characters are a bunch of cute, yet slightly neurotic animals who think they are living in the lap of luxury until Marty the Zebra decides to explore the outside world.  Minor hilarity ensues.
Sadly, [...]

What it means to be an American

Not too long ago, I was browsing some blogs and I came upon a blog who wrote a blog post saying that every American who doesn’t agree 100% with our US Government and the War should leave the country.  Frankly, I was totally appalled by this statement.  Not only did that statement piss me off [...]

2a.m. shopping sprees

If I don’t stop shopping, I’ll end up a bag lady; a Fendi bag lady, but a bag lady…..
Carrie”Sex in the City”

I’ve decided that going on Amazon.com is a dangerous thing at 2am.
The other night I was having a bit of trouble settling down and going to sleep…and, as my normal custom at times when [...]

American Gods by Neil Gaiman

Shadow has just been released from prison.  He is excited about returning to his wife Laura, but once he is on the outside he learns that Laura has just been killed.  While heading home for Laura’s funeral, Shadow is approached by a strange man offering him an “interesting” job opportunity, and doesn’t seem to like [...]

My Coworkers Want Me Dead

“Come on baby, light my fire”

–The Doors
Friday night’s at work are set aside for cleaning the kitchen, you know, the types of chores that don’t have to be done daily; just weekly or so.  One of the main chores that has to be dealt with is the oven.  Usually it’s a fairly easy chore, just [...]
